About
The work begins with old Carpathian shingles taken from the façade of an abandoned mountain house, deep in the forests of a Ukrainian village.
Once part of vernacular architecture, the weathered timber carries the traces of place, time and exposure. It was later given a new architectural life in the interior of ΓONTA bar before becoming something entirely different.
Reassembled as a wall sculpture, the shingles form a dark, irregular field from which a single brass light emerges.
The material has moved from architecture to interior, and finally into sculpture.
Spalakh is a moment when something dormant becomes alive.
